Google Home gets access to AI agents through the MCP.
Google launches an MCP server for the smart home. So now you can ask agents like Claude and ChatGPT to turn off the lights, lock the door, check security camera summaries, etc.
Early access to the MCP server for Google Home has been released! Now you can use agents such as Claude or ChatGPT to manage your home devices including thermostats, locks, check security summary videos, and see what’s happening at home. Currently this is only available to Google Home Premium Advanced users (US $20/month).
The MCP is becoming more mainstream both in development and in our lives. Unfortunately, you do need to create a Google Cloud project but soon you will be able to say “Hey, ask the agent to turn off the lights and make sure the garage is locked.”
