GPT-6.1 Terra: Half the Price, Fewer Mistakes
OpenAI released GPT-6.1 Terra for image understanding and computer control. It costs half as much as the previous version, and its made-up-answer rate dropped to 38% from 88%.
OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, released a new model called GPT-6.1 Terra on October 26. It reads images and can control a computer. That means it fills out forms and analyzes drawings and documents. Input tokens cost $1 per million, output tokens cost $5 per million. That is half the price of the previous version, GPT-5.6 Terra, which charged $2 per million input tokens and $12 per million output tokens. The share of made-up answers dropped to 38% from 88%.
The price cut matters for agents that do routine work, like filling out forms and reading drawings. That kind of task does not need an expensive model. For serious coding work, Anthropic's Opus and Fable models remain stronger. Here OpenAI is catching up, not pulling ahead.
