OpenAI Uses Discounts Up to 90% to Poach Anthropic's Clients
OpenAI is using discounts of up to 90% to pull major clients away from Anthropic. Rippling shifted most of its coding work to OpenAI, and DataCamp reports its AI bill dropped 80-90%.
OpenAI is offering discounts of up to 90 percent to pull big clients away from Anthropic. Anthropic is its main rival in AI coding tools. Rippling, a company that builds HR software, is one of those clients. Its CEO, Parker Conrad, says OpenAI's share of Rippling's coding volume grew from 16 to 52 percent. Anthropic's share fell from 57 to 18 percent over the same months. DataCamp is an online school for data skills. Its founder, Jonathan Cornelissen, says OpenAI's new pricing cut his company's AI bill by 80 to 90 percent.
A discount changes the price of a subscription. It does not change what the model actually does with a coding task. Companies that pick a model on price alone risk paying more later, in agent mistakes.
