Healthleap Raises $38M for Hospital Risk AI

Healthleap has raised $38 million for an AI system that reads hospital medical records and flags patients at risk of malnutrition and delirium.

Healthleap, a startup building AI software for hospitals, raised $38 million. The round includes an $8 million seed round, the earliest stage of startup funding, led by Sequoia Capital and First Round Capital. It also includes a $30 million Series A round, a later and larger funding round, led by Hummingbird Ventures. The company's system reads doctors' notes about weight loss and trouble swallowing. It checks these notes against lab results. Each morning it sends care teams a risk score for malnutrition and delirium. The platform already runs in more than 50 hospitals, including Penn Medicine, Cedars-Sinai, Intermountain, Houston Methodist and Emory Healthcare.

The strongest argument here is not the model, it is the money on a real hospital ledger. At Penn Medicine, the malnutrition program alone produced $23.8 million in financial impact over a year. Every Healthleap customer sees at least a 5x return, and in some cases more than 20x. For hospitals, that kind of result matters more than any benchmark score, because a system like this stays in use for the money it saves, not for how well it performs on a test.
