Meta starts mass producing their MTIA AI chips in September 2026. Their prototype finished testing after about 6 weeks. They were developed in conjunction with Broadcom and produced by TSMC. By the end of 2026, they plan to have 7 GW of compute deployed. By 2027, that will double to 14 GW. All this at a total annual capex of $125–145B.

The world’s biggest social network going proprietary on their AI chips changes the landscape for the entire AI chip industry. It reduces reliance on Nvidia & AMD, and gives them more control over inference costs. Google & Apple did it before, now it’s Meta’s turn.
