Free Monaspace Font: A Superfamily from Github Next
Get GitHub Next’s free Neon, Argon, Xenon, Radon, Krypton monospaced font family (5 fonts) in one ZIP file to install in VS Code, Cursor or other code editors. With texture healing and coding ligatures.
JetBrains Mono, Fira Code, back to default… I’ve been switching between those 3 fonts for years now, looking for the perfect font to make my projects look professional, yet not too cold nor too brainy. Until I discovered Monaspace, and well… I stuck with it.
Monaspace is a free superfamily of five monospaced typefaces created by GitHub Next. That’s right, 5 different fonts! Neon, Argon, Xenon, Radon, Krypton. All of them with their own flavor, yet having identical measurements, so you can use them together without issues in the same project. For example, you could use Neon as your primary editor font, while using Krypton for AI suggestions, and they will align beautifully on the grid.

Texture healing is the main gimmick here. It’s an optical correction which makes characters like ‘m’ or ‘w’ appear less compressed in a monospaced layout. It’s subtle, but trust me, you’ll notice it. There are also coding ligatures for arrows, equals signs, double colons, distributed across 10 stylistic sets which you can turn on and off. If you’re a terminal user, there are also patches for Nerd Fonts editions.
How to install Monaspace free monospace font
- 1Open the Monaspace latest release page on GitHub (link in the repo README)
- 2Download the ZIP archive — it contains all five families in static and variable formats
- 3Unzip and install the fonts on your system (double-click .otf or .ttf files on macOS/Windows)
- 4In VS Code or Cursor, open Settings and search for fontFamily
- 5Set your preferred Monaspace family and save — see the config snippet below
"editor.fontFamily": "'Monaspace Neon', monospace", "editor.inlineSuggest.fontFamily": "'Monaspace Krypton', monospace"
There are hundreds of files included in this ZIP if you install everything, but for VS Code you only need the variable fonts (one file per font family). That’s much easier to work with. If you use the terminal often, download the NF (Nerd Fonts) editions, because they have patches for all the icons in your prompt.
Five free, high-quality monospaced fonts in one download — each with a distinct voice, all metrics-compatible so you can mix them. Texture healing makes long coding sessions easier on the eyes, coding ligatures are fully customizable by stylistic set, and Nerd Fonts versions are included for terminal use. One line in your editor config and you're done.
