OpenAI Launches Dots Agents to Rival Meta Muse

OpenAI unveiled its Dots agents at DevDay, built on GPT-6 Astra. They run in the background nonstop and connect to more than 4,000 apps, and they are available only on the Pro and Business Premium plans.

At DevDay, OpenAI showed off its Dots agent, which runs on top of GPT-6 Astra. Dots can keep working even when ChatGPT is closed. It connects automatically to more than 4,000 different apps. Dots has its own cloud computer and web browser. Access is limited to people who pay for the Pro or Business Premium plans. One thing stays constant, though. Dots always asks the human to confirm any password change.

I use Claude Code every day, and in general I am wary of giving agents full freedom on the internet, especially when they have unsupervised access to a web browser. OpenAI seems to be taking a risk here, allowing more autonomy than I personally would grant an AI agent without supervision. And even so, Dots addresses only one of the possible safety problems. Right now this looks less like a working tool and more like a proof of concept.
