OpenAI Slashes GPT-5.6 Luna Pricing by 80%
OpenAI has cut GPT-5.6 Luna prices by 80%: one million tokens now costs $0.20 on input and $1.20 on output. Terra dropped 20%; Sol is unchanged.
OpenAI slashed the price of its accessible GPT-5.6 Luna model by 80%: one million tokens — the basic units of text that language models process — now costs $0.20 on input and $1.20 on output. A task that costs a dollar with competitors runs about 6 cents on Luna; Terra dropped 20%, and Sol remains unchanged.
The price reduction was made possible by AI itself: GPT-5.6 Sol optimized GPU code in the cloud by 20% and sped up text generation by 15%, lowering the cost of its own operation. Cheap Chinese providers and Microsoft's competing MAI models have also been fueling the pricing war.
