OpenAI’s first product is a touchscreen-free speaker with moving components

OpenAI is working on their first hardware product — a speaker without a screen and with moving parts. This is described as a “physical manifestation of ChatGPT,” which means it will have a personality, learn about you and your habits, and have access to your email and other data. It’s being developed by former Apple employees who worked on the iPhone and Mac.

This is OpenAI’s attempt at creating a direct relationship with the customer without any middlemen (Apple/Google). If this takes off, it could change how AI is distributed. Instead of having all your data and voice info stored in your phone, you might have a separate device with its own memory.
