Taiwan Raids Super Micro Offices in Nvidia Chip Smuggling Case

Taiwanese prosecutors raided the offices of Super Micro Computer and three affiliated companies — Chief Telecom, Albatron Technology, and others. The investigation is led by the Keelung Prosecutor's Office and concerns the smuggling of Nvidia chips to China. Three suspects falsified export documents and routed chip shipments through Japan to evade U.S. export controls.

Super Micro's co-founder has been formally indicted, though the company itself is not a defendant. Super Micro shares fell 8% on the day of the raids. The company stated that it is "cooperating closely with authorities and protecting its technology."

The first arrests came back in May 2026. Taiwan is now discussing enacting its own laws to ban the export of AI chips to China, in line with U.S. restrictions. This is the first public criminal operation targeting an AI sanctions-evasion chain in Asia: moving hardware is becoming as politically charged as developing the models themselves.
