OpenDots: build your own AI coworker for chat, calls, and Slack
OpenDots is an open-source template for always-on AI "coworkers" that move between chat, calls, and Slack. You get a base you still need to configure, not a ready-made assistant.
It's a kit for building AI "coworkers" — agents with a name, role, and their own isolated computer: browser, files, terminal. Each agent is called a Dot and can work in chat, on a call, or in Slack.
When it helps
Useful if you want an always-on AI helper for your team that handles messages and calls on its own, not a one-off chatbot. Not for you if you want a ready "out of the box" service — you'll need to set up infrastructure and keys yourself.
Pros
- Agent always asks your approval before any real action
- Each Dot can get its own isolated browser and files
- Runs on an ordinary laptop, no GPU needed
- Can connect email and calendar through Composio
Cons
- It's a kit to assemble, not a ready-made service
- Needs your own CopilotKit Intelligence account — all chats go through it
- Also needs a separate model key, so full privacy isn't guaranteed
How to set it up — step by step
- 1Open your coding AI agent inside your project folder.
- 2Send the agent the text from the block below to deploy OpenDots.
- 3Create a CopilotKit Intelligence account and get a model key, e.g. OpenAI.
- 4Ask the agent to run npm run dev and open http://127.0.0.1:5173.
- 5Check that you managed to create and configure your first Dot agent.
Text for your agent
Copy this and send it to your agent — Claude Code, Codex, any of them:
Deploy OpenDots from https://github.com/CopilotKit/OpenDots — follow the README (you'll need a CopilotKit Intelligence account and a model key, e.g. OpenAI, ask me for them), run npm run dev, open http://127.0.0.1:5173, and show me a Dot agent you created.
Runs on a regular laptop — no GPU needed, just Node.js 24 and npm, plus a CopilotKit Intelligence account and an AI model key.
