Saw an app you like? Rebuild it as your own Mac app

BAMA is a set of ready-made instructions for an AI agent that turns an app you like into your own native Mac program.

01daveebbelaar/bama 580Swift

It's 21 task files for Claude Code or Codex that guide the agent from idea to a working Mac app written in Swift.

When it helps

Useful if you want a real native Mac app, not a website. Skip it for web or mobile development.

Pros

  • The agent plans, writes, and tests code — you don't code by hand
  • Takes screenshots in light and dark mode at every step
  • Ready-made specs for small apps let you start building right away
  • Works with both Claude Code and Codex

Cons

  • Only builds macOS apps in Swift — no web or mobile support
  • Needs a Mac with current macOS and Xcode installed
  • Copying another app's interface requires paid Claude Pro or Max

How to set it up — step by step

  1. 1Open your AI agent (Claude Code or Codex) in your project folder.
  2. 2Send the agent the text from the block below to install BAMA from github.com/daveebbelaar/bama.
  3. 3Tell the agent which app you want to rebuild and ask it to start by cloning the first screen.
  4. 4If the agent asks for Claude Pro or Max access for screenshots, confirm or decline.
  5. 5Review the screenshots and the task list the agent writes before coding starts.
  6. 6Track progress as the agent commits one task at a time, with light and dark mode screenshots.

Text for your agent

Copy this and send it to your agent — Claude Code, Codex, any of them:

Install the BAMA skills from https://github.com/daveebbelaar/bama (`npx skills@latest add daveebbelaar/bama` or as a Claude Code plugin), show it the app I want to rebuild as a Mac app, and start by cloning the first screen. Ask me if you need Claude Pro or Max access for that.

Needs a Mac with a recent macOS and Xcode installed for the build (you never open Xcode yourself) — no GPU needed. To have the agent screenshot another app's screens automatically, you need a Claude Pro or Max subscription.
