Run a compact AI model for step-by-step agent tasks on your laptop
Spark-X2.6-4B is a compact model built for AI agents that handle real step-by-step tasks — tool calls, following instructions. Install it locally and get that agent running on your own laptop.
A small language model (about 4 billion parameters) for local AI agents that follow instructions and call tools step by step.
When it helps
Useful for simple, repetitive tool-calling tasks on your own machine, no internet needed. For deep reasoning or big projects, pick a larger model instead.
Pros
- Runs on an ordinary laptop with 8GB of RAM
- Switches reasoning depth, so simple requests don't waste time
- GGUF file is ready-made — no conversion needed yourself
- Built for tool calls and step-by-step planning
Cons
- Falls noticeably behind larger models on hard tasks
- Not suited for deep reasoning or large projects
How to set it up — step by step
- 1Open your AI coding agent (Claude Code, Codex) inside your project folder.
- 2Send the agent the text from the block below.
- 3Wait while the agent downloads the GGUF file and runs it through Ollama.
- 4Check that the model replies to your question through Ollama.
- 5Switch the reasoning mode (none/low/high) and compare the answers.

Set up Spark-X2.6-4B for me locally: https://huggingface.co/XHToken/Spark-X2.6-4B-GGUF — use the ready GGUF file, run it through Ollama, and show me how to talk to it.
An ordinary laptop with roughly 8 GB of RAM or more (around 4B parameters, GGUF file already prepared — this is an approximate estimate).
