Flint: an open AI agent model that fixes bugs in your code

Flint is Recursive's AI model for coding agents: it reads a project, finds bugs, and writes tests. With serious hardware, you get a fully open helper instead of paying per request to a closed API.

It's an AI model you can plug into a coding agent — a program that reads your project and edits it itself.

When it helps

Useful if you're building your own coding agent and want full control without per-request API fees. Skip it if you only have a laptop or just want a ready-made assistant.

Pros

  • Fully open under the Apache 2.0 license, free to use
  • Built specifically for code work, not adapted from a chatbot
  • Solved 74.2% of real bugs in Recursive's own benchmark
  • No per-request fees to a closed API

Cons

  • Needs a 64GB-memory Mac or a 48GB graphics card
  • Won't fit on a regular laptop or home graphics card
  • Renting cloud GPU to try it can erase the savings

How to set it up — step by step

  1. 1Check you have a Mac with 64GB+ memory or a 48GB graphics card — Flint won't run without it.
  2. 2Open the Flint model page on Hugging Face at https://huggingface.co/RecursiveSI/flint.
  3. 3Send your agent the text from the block below.
  4. 4Wait for the agent to point you to a quantized version and the vendor's local run command.
  5. 5Launch Flint locally following the instructions and confirm it answers a test request.
  6. 6Ask Flint to fix a real bug in your project and review the result before applying it.

Text for your agent

Copy this and send it to your agent — Claude Code, Codex, any of them:

Open Recursive's Flint model card (https://huggingface.co/RecursiveSI/flint), check whether there is a quantized build for my GPU or Mac, and explain how to run it locally using the vendor's engine linked on the card.

This is a server-grade model — an ordinary laptop will not run it. Based on its size (about 40 billion parameters), a rough estimate calls for a Mac with at least 64 GB of memory or a graphics card with 48 GB; this is an approximate calculation, not an official requirement.
