Nanobot is an ultra light-weight, open-source, self-hosted personal AI agent framework implemented in Python by Hong Kong University of Data Science. It provides WebUI to access it via browsers, a terminal client and chat app (all share the same agent). Your agent has long term memory, tooling integration via MCP, cross AI model routing, task subdelegation to subagents, schedule automation and OpenAI compatible APIs for third party applications. Single curl command to install on MacOS/Linux, one line powershell code to install on windows. No hassle. Just launch the WebUI and talk to it. Support all model providers like OpenAI, Anthropic Claude or local models using Ollama. Published 7 months ago. Already getting close to 48,000 stars.

Why a vibe-coder should care

Your own personal AI agent that grows its context. Remember past conversations, tasks you’ve automated and tooling you use. Unlike cloud chatbot, it is all done locally. Nothing goes out from your own computer unless you use external model API.

How to install

Copy this and send it to your agent — Claude Code, Codex, any of them:

Install nanobot from https://github.com/HKUDS/nanobot — follow the README (Mac/Linux: curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/HKUDS/nanobot/main/scripts/install.sh | sh). Launch the WebUI with `nanobot webui`, open the browser, and show me what you see. Ask me for a model API key if needed.

Runs on a regular laptop — only Python 3.11+ needed. No GPU required.
