Clean Ads and Forced News Off a Chinese Android Phone

This tool switches off ads, trending-news feeds and marketing pushes on Chinese Android phones (OPPO, Xiaomi, vivo, OnePlus, and more) without root, and every change can be undone.

It's a set of scripts and a desktop app that flip settings switches already built into your phone and its apps — turning off ads, news recommendations and promotional notifications.

When it helps

Useful if you own an OPPO, Xiaomi, vivo, OnePlus or similar Chinese-brand phone and are tired of ads and forced news on the home screen. Skip it if your phone is a different brand (Samsung, Google Pixel) — this clutter usually isn't there.

Pros

  • No root or firmware reflash needed — every change is reversible
  • Over 17 phone models have a ready script, done in 4–6 minutes
  • A standalone Mac/Windows app needs no Python or AI at all
  • The agent confirms each step and gives you a final report

Cons

  • Unlisted models get a slow page-by-page settings scan instead
  • The AI-agent route needs Python and adb installed first
  • Only adb-connected Android devices work — no native HarmonyOS (HDC)

How to set it up — step by step

  1. 1On your phone, enable Developer options → USB debugging (or download the Mac/Windows desktop app instead).
  2. 2Connect your phone to the computer with a USB cable.
  3. 3If using an AI agent (Claude Code, Codex): open it in your project folder and send it the text from the block below.
  4. 4Approve each change the agent proposes before it runs it.
  5. 5Check the final report: what got disabled, what stayed, and how to undo it.
  6. 6Turn developer mode back off on your phone once you're done.

Text for your agent

Copy this and send it to your agent — Claude Code, Codex, any of them:

Clone https://github.com/rddmwmddr/android-ad-cleaner, read the AGENTS.md file in the repository and clean the ads and pushed news on the Android phone connected to this computer over USB - explain what you are about to change before each step, and show a report at the end of what got switched off, what stayed on, and how to undo it. Ask me if you need me to unlock the phone or approve USB debugging along the way.

A regular laptop, Mac or Windows. The desktop client needs no Python and no AI at all - just a cable to the phone. The terminal AI-agent way is slightly heavier: it needs Python and adb installed, but that's a light setup, no graphics card needed.
