FastCtx: MCP Tools for AI Coding Agents

FastCtx is an MCP server written in Rust that provides 9 structured tools (file IO, code search, glob, replace, process management) for AI code agents to use. By removing the need for agents to deal with the mechanics of shell scripting, FastCtx allows them to focus more context on the real task at hand.

FastCtx is a Rust MCP server that exposes popular repository actions (file io, code search, subprocess management) through a set of structured tools with clear input/output. Rather than dealing directly with shell commands, a code agent can make use of 9 different MCP tools. This open source project (dual MIT/Apache-2.0) has become popular due to the rising usage of MCP by AI agents to augment their functionality, as well as the reduced latency of a compiled language like Rust.

Why a vibe-coder should care

AI code agents can expend many context tokens simply traversing a repository’s directory structure. With the help of FastCtx, these agents can focus more of their context tokens on the task itself rather than the mechanics of invoking various commands.
