Anthropic has opened a physical biology laboratory in the San Francisco area. The lab is led by Eric Koderer-Abrams. In June 2026, the company launched the Claude Science program, which focuses on developing drugs for diseases that pharmaceutical companies consider unprofitable.
Koderer-Abrams was direct about it: "The final test in biology still comes down to real lab work." I included this program on my list specifically because of its focus. Rare diseases are an area pharmaceutical companies avoid for economic reasons, and a program built on Claude does not have that constraint.
