Anthropic's S-1 Hides a $498 Billion Bill
Anthropic filed for its IPO. Revenue grew 14x to $16.3 billion, but the company is on the hook to pay $498 billion of its compute contracts no matter what.
Claude's parent company, Anthropic, announced it is going public on Nasdaq under the ticker ANT. In the first half of 2026, its revenue grew 14x, from $1.16 billion to $16.3 billion. The number of customers paying more than $100,000 a year grew from 950 to 11,900. The company also signed eight compute contracts with Microsoft, Amazon, and SpaceX worth $657 billion combined. Of that, $498 billion, or 76%, is non-cancelable. That means Anthropic has to pay it even if the compute never gets used.
The 14x revenue growth is impressive. But the real story is that non-cancelable $498 billion. Anthropic is committing to pay for years of compute capacity up front, betting that its growth stays this fast. If that growth does not happen, the company still owes the full amount.
