Free Local AI Music and Sound Effects for Video Projects
A free local tool connects to Claude Code and other AI agents to write background music and sound effects on your own Mac or PC, from a plain request, with no cloud and no account.
When an agent writes the code for a game or a video project, the sound almost always stays a separate problem. The agent can place a button or render a scene, but it does not compose music or build a sound effect on its own, and until now that meant a trip to a stock library or a paid service.
Today's find gives the agent exactly that missing piece: a sound studio of its own, running on your own machine, that answers a plain request with a finished audio file.

The project calls itself Audio Studio MCP, and its own description says plainly what it does: it gives Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor and any other MCP client a sound studio that runs on your own Mac or Windows PC. A request in plain language becomes a track or a sound effect, built locally by a model called Stable Audio 3, with no cloud step and no API key.
Once a clip exists, the same server can loop it seamlessly, normalize its loudness and export it as WAV, OGG or FLAC, through three separate tools named generate_audio, edit_audio and process_audio. In my opinion, this last part is the detail that makes it usable rather than just a toy: a sound effect that cannot be looped or exported to the right format is not really ready for a game engine.
How to set it up
Regarding the hardware, the project is honest about it in its own README: an Apple silicon Mac, M1 or later, with 16 GB of RAM recommended, or a Windows PC with an NVIDIA graphics card that has at least 8 GB of VRAM. On a Mac the install downloads about 6 GB for the model, on Windows about 14 GB.
git clone https://github.com/kanaworksai-hue/audio-studio-mcp.git cd audio-studio-mcp ./install.sh
claude mcp add --scope user audio-studio -- /path/to/audio-studio-mcp/.venv/bin/audio-studio-mcp
After that, the request to the agent is just a sentence. The project's own README gives this exact example: "Make a 60-second lo-fi BGM loop at 85 BPM for a cafe scene, give me 3 candidates." On Windows the model weights are gated on Hugging Face, so the installer asks you to accept the license once on a free account before the first generation.
At the moment, if typing to an agent is not your style, the same server also opens a small web page in the browser, on your own machine, where generating and comparing a few variants works by clicking instead.
A free, local sound studio for whatever an agent builds for you: no account, no credit queue, and a finished file ready for a game engine or a video editor. The honest limit is the hardware, an Apple silicon Mac or a PC with a real NVIDIA card, so a thin laptop with no dedicated graphics will not run it.
