Gentoo developer Michał Górny shut down the official bug tracker on August 8 — LLM scrapers had been hitting it from thousands of different IPv4 addresses with no discernible pattern to block. Górny put it plainly: "Feeding AI scrapers is pointless. I'm not a sysadmin; I don't have time to deal with this."
AI bots are already taking down open-source infrastructure — Hedgewars tells the same story with its repository and bug tracker. The industrial-scale data harvesting that feeds LLMs hits volunteer-run services hardest, where there's neither the budget nor the staff to fight back.
