GPT-6 Astra Spots IKEA Furniture Assembly Mistakes From Photos

Epoch AI gave the models a task. Look at a photo of assembled IKEA furniture, and find exactly where the person went wrong. In November 2025, the best model on this test, Claude Opus 4.5, caught the error in 28 percent of cases. Ten months later, OpenAI's new model, GPT-6 Astra, gets it right 80 percent of the time. But it spends about three minutes analyzing a single photo.

That three-minute delay per photo matters more than the accuracy number. While the model runs this slowly, it cannot guide you in real time as you build the furniture. It only works after the fact, when something is already assembled crooked and you want to find out where you went wrong. What interests me more is that the model learned to compare a photo against written instructions and locate the right spot in the text. A fast, cheap version of this check is coming. It is just a matter of time now, not of the idea itself.
