GPT-6 Astra Solves Enigma MVUEH Code from 2005

The GPT-6 Astra model managed to break a previously unsolved enigma cipher from 2005 (MVUEH), which was transmitted by the German army on July 10th 1941. Not only did it manage to write its own enigma simulator in python/c++ and create a decryptor but it also went ahead and queried the german bundesarchiv database to find the relevant data all on its own! The GPT-6 Astra model autonomously tackled this challenge, figuring out the approach, executing it and finding the necessary data in the archive all on its own!

When I want to understand something and build a tool around it I typically use something like Fable 5.1 in Claude Code but it’s amazing to see what the GPT-6 Astra model can do without explicitly spelling out the steps!
