GPT-6 Astra decrypted a German Army Enigma message labeled MVUEH, sent on July 10, 1941, which had remained unsolved since 2005. The model wrote its own code and located the relevant archival records.
GPT-6 Astra decrypted a German Army Enigma message labeled MVUEH, sent on July 10, 1941. That message had remained unsolved since 2005. The model wrote an Enigma simulator and a cracking program in Python and C++. It then located the correct references in the German Bundesarchiv records, without being given any hints about where to look.
The model did everything on its own. It chose the approach, wrote the code, and found the archival data. I assign similar tasks to Fable 5.1 in Claude Code when I need to understand a domain and write a tool at the same time. What is interesting is that GPT-6 Astra managed this without explicit step-by-step instructions.
