Thinking Machines Raises $5B at $40B Valuation
Mira Murati's Thinking Machines Lab is raising $5 billion at a $40 billion valuation, even though a third of its founders have already left for Meta and OpenAI.
AI startup Thinking Machines Lab, founded by former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati, is raising another round of funding. The company is bringing in $5 billion, with venture firm Accel valuing it at $40 billion pre-money. That is more than triple its valuation from a year earlier. A third of the company's original founding team has already moved on to Meta and OpenAI.
Despite that turnover, investors remain optimistic about the company and its product, Tinker. Tinker lets users fine-tune large language models. That means changing someone else's AI model with your own data, not just sending queries to an API. The size of the round shows that investment in AI infrastructure keeps growing, even amid fierce competition among AI research labs.
