OpenAI is removing its models from Cursor after it was acquired by SpaceX
Cursor will lose access to OpenAI models on Nov 12th 2026 after SpaceX AI bought the editor and they broke xAI’s previous contracts with OpenAI (who claimed xAI was using their data to train their models).
Cursor will lose access to OpenAI models because of SpaceX AI buying them out and breaking previous contracts between xAI and OpenAI (who claimed xAI was using their data to train their models). OpenAI gave Cursor until Nov 12th 2026 but they might move this date sooner. Cursor CEO Michael Truell is negotiating with OpenAI about this issue and Anthropic is willing to provide more computing resources for Claude in Cursor.
Only 5% of Cursor’s users are still using OpenAI, the others switched to Anthropic long ago. This is the first time a company fight has resulted in losing access to models for a popular devtool.
