OpenAI Solves 100 Open Math Problems

OpenAI's AI solved more than 100 open math problems, including the Navier-Stokes equations, one of the Millennium Prize Problems. The announcement came on September 8. On the same day, the company formed an advisory board of nine mathematicians at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton.

The board sounds significant, but it has no real authority. It cannot slow the research or change its direction. It can only give advice. I would call this scientific decoration. Still, the fact matters: AI now solves problems that used to require a dissertation and decades of work.
