SpaceX to Deploy 2M Nvidia Rubin GPUs for 5x AI Capability Increase by 2027
SpaceX is buying over 2 million next-generation Nvidia Rubin GPUs, a move that will increase AI compute capacity five-fold by 2027. SpaceX’s AI team, established following the xAI acquisition, is currently generating $2.56 billion in revenue per quarter.
SpaceX has placed an order for more than 2M next-gen Nvidia Rubin GPUs, on top of their existing fleet of 540,000 H100, GB200 & GB300 GPUs running in their cluster. This will result in more than a 5x growth in their cluster compute power, going from 1.4 to 10 gigawatts by the end of 2027. Currently, SpaceX’s AI division (acquired by SpaceX after the xAI acquisition in February 2026 at a valuation of $1.25 trillion) brings in $2.56 billion in revenue each quarter (mostly through selling compute to big companies).
This is the largest investment in AI hardware ever made. SpaceX now has access to the most powerful GPUs in the world, which they can use to upend the cloud AI industry by prioritizing compute over models.
