SpaceX Eyes 2 Million Nvidia Rubin GPUs to Quintuple AI Compute by 2027

SpaceX plans to purchase more than 2 million next-gen Nvidia Rubin GPUs, growing AI compute capacity fivefold by 2027. The AI division, formed after the xAI acquisition, already generates $2.56 billion per quarter.

SpaceX plans to purchase more than 2 million next-gen Nvidia Rubin GPUs — on top of the 540,000 H100, GB200, and GB300 chips it already operates. By the end of 2027, cluster capacity will grow more than fivefold: from 1.4 to 10 gigawatts. The AI division that xAI folded into SpaceX in February 2026 at a $1.25 trillion valuation already generates $2.56 billion in quarterly revenue — primarily from selling compute to large enterprise clients.

This is the largest single-company bet on AI hardware in history. When 2 million of the world's most powerful GPUs are concentrated in a single cluster, the cloud AI market shifts on its axis: raw compute power starts to matter more than model quality.
