The other day I was working on some little geography quiz for the project, and I asked my agent to come up with some questions. And it did. But when I checked the answers, some of them turned out to be inaccurate. Not “obviously wrong”, but wrong in a subtle way that would go unnoticed if I didn’t know what the right answer is. So I decided to find something better than my agent.

Ultimate Geography is a collaborative Anki deck about all 205 sovereign states, territories, oceans, seas and continents. 978 cards in total. Each card has a country, its capital, its flag and its map. It’s also available in 16 languages: English, Russian, German, French, Spanish and others. Ultimate Geography’s data is made available as structured JSON, so you can use it both in Anki, and as a reliable database for any other project.

To use it as a database for a quiz app, download ZIP from the Releases page, unpack it and you’ll find JSON file with all the cards and media folder with all the flags and maps in it. Pass both to your agent and ask it to generate a quiz based on this. Goodbye, fake capitals!

How to use the geography deck as quiz data

  1. 1Go to the Releases page on GitHub (linked in the repo README)
  2. 2Download the ZIP for your language — e.g. Ultimate_Geography_[...]-EN.zip for English
  3. 3Extract the archive — inside you'll find a JSON file and a media folder with flags and maps
  4. 4Point your agent at the extracted folder: 'use this JSON as the data source for the quiz'
  5. 5The JSON contains country names, capitals, flag paths, and map paths — all verified data

How to install the geography flashcard deck in Anki

  1. 1Download and install Anki from anki.app (free, available on Windows, Mac, iOS, Android)
  2. 2Open Anki, go to Tools → Add-ons → Get Add-ons, paste the code below
  3. 3Restart Anki after installing the CrowdAnki add-on
  4. 4Go to the Releases page, download the ZIP for your language
  5. 5In Anki: File → CrowdAnki: Import from disk → select the extracted folder
CrowdAnki add-on code (paste into Anki → Add-ons → Get Add-ons)

After importing, there are four card types: Country > Capital, Capital > Country, Flag > Country and Map > Country. With the extended version (included in the same release) there are two more: Country > Flag and Country > Map. They are all flagged, all continents and regions tagged so you can learn only Europe or Southeast Asia.

✓What you get

978 verified flashcards covering all 205 sovereign states, 221 flags, and 319 maps — in 16 languages. Use in Anki for personal geography study, or hand the JSON files to your agent as a reliable data source for a quiz app. Community-maintained and actively updated.
