Airbnb: AI Writes 60% of Its Code, Feature Output Up 80%

Airbnb reported Q2 2026 results and shared figures on AI's impact on development: AI models now write 60% of the company's new code. In the first six months of 2026, the platform shipped 80% more product features than in the same period of 2025. CEO Brian Chesky said the time from concept to launch has been cut by "up to 60%."

The changes extend beyond engineering. A support bot launched in North America in 2025 — now available in 50+ languages — resolves 45% of inquiries without any human agent involvement. The cost per support request dropped 16% year over year. For the quarter, revenue came in at $3.6B (+17% YoY), with adjusted EBITDA of $1.3B (+21% YoY).

Beyond efficiency, the company is testing AI-powered natural-language search: users describe what they're looking for in their own words and get visually formatted results with personalized property descriptions. Classic search remains available via a toggle — Airbnb isn't removing the familiar interface, just offering a choice.

Airbnb isn't a tech company in the traditional sense: it's a housing marketplace that grew out of a 2008 startup. That's exactly why these numbers are a signal to the entire industry. If a company far from the cutting edge of software development has multiplied its feature output in a year through AI, the productivity gap between those who have adopted these tools and those who keep delaying will only widen.
