EU pledges 11.4 Billion USD for 7 AI Gigafactories
The EU has been playing catch-up with America and China for a long time, now they’re spending $11.4bn on gigafactories (AI training datacenters) to reclaim their technological lead.
For years we have seen how the AI race is unfolding in the EU while the computing power was growing in the US and in Asia. In order to step up their game, the EU is now constructing 7 gigafactories that will store a minimum of 100,000 high-performance AI chips each, i.e., 4 times more computing power than all the existing data centers in the EU. This project involves 18 EU member states and could reach up to $34bn with private funding.
