OpenAI GPT-6 Sol and Luna: Half the Price of GPT-5.6

OpenAI has released GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna. Both are priced at half the cost of their GPT-5.6 predecessors. According to the company's internal evaluation on factual accuracy tests, GPT-6 Sol produces half as many errors as the previous Sol. Sol is aimed at complex and coding tasks, Luna at high-volume document work.

I work in Claude Code and do not plan to switch tools. But the price drop in GPT-6 is already affecting the market: Anthropic released Opus 5.5 the same day and also cut prices. In high-volume pipelines where I count every token myself, this is a reason to recalculate the budget.
