GPT-6 Sol and Luna – Half the price of GPT-5.6

OpenAI just announced their GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna models. They’re half the price of their GPT-5.6 models. Internally, OpenAI found that GPT-6 Sol makes half the mistakes of the previous version (Sol) when tested on factuality benchmarks. Sol is meant for complicated/coding tasks while Luna is meant for large amounts of documents.

As someone who works in Claude Code, I don’t intend to use other tools. However, the reduction in price of the GPT-6 models will have an impact on the market. For example, Anthropic just announced their Opus 5.5 model on the same day and reduced its price too. This is enough for me to reconsider my token budget in some high-volume pipelines.
