Flew Joby 3,100 miles across the US without a pilot!

Joby Aviation flew a modified Cessna Caravan 3,100 miles across the US. There was a pilot aboard for legal purposes, but the plane took off, flew, and landed itself. It was controlled from Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina.

Joby is known for creating urban air taxis, but this flight points to a different future for them. I do this same thing (“launch and monitor with intervention when necessary”) with my agents daily, and now they’re doing it to fly a plane 3,100 miles. A $17M Air Force contract and a $500M acquisition of defense contractor Resonant Sciences tells me where we’re headed — military transportation and medical supplies, not urban air taxis.
