Meta’s ad platform allowed over 50 ads with AI generated CSAM
More than 50 AI-generated fake child porn ads appeared on Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and Messenger between November 2025 and August 2026.
Over 50 deepfake images of child pornography were found on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and Threads. These ads were online from November 2025 to August 2026 until they were removed following exposure by journalists.
The ads passed Meta’s automated moderation checks since it only verifies the format of the ad, not its content. Using AI to generate ads and then using AI to moderate those same ads creates a black box effect which can exacerbate issues.
