Meta Unveils Max, a Home Robot Prototype With No Release Date
Meta has shown off Max, a prototype robot meant to help around the house. It was built in three months with Fourier, but there's still no release date for a mass-market version.
Meta has built a humanoid robot named "Max" that is meant to help with various household tasks. According to The Information, Meta worked with Chinese robot maker Fourier to build the robot in roughly three months. Standing about 1.5 meters tall and weighing around 106 pounds, the robot runs on NVIDIA Jetson Thor chips, can pick up small objects, and has a display that lets it show emotions. Meta has not announced when it plans to release a consumer product, but it has already started work on a next-generation prototype, Max 2.
When companies show off prototypes without naming an official release date, there is usually a big gap between what gets demoed and what can actually ship as a consumer product. That gap is usually longer than three months.
