The Meta Shows Muse Charm is an AI-powered keychain device.

During Meta Connect 2026, Meta unveiled their latest product, the Muse Charm. The Muse Charm is a small device with a miniature display and an AI companion called Jolly. It clips onto your keychain or fits inside your pocket. The device is secured by fingerprint recognition and allows users to interact with the device and its AI companion without having to access their smartphone or even unlock it. As Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg put it, “It’s kind of like a tamagotchi” (a type of electronic pet from the past). The Muse Charm will be available for purchase before Christmas, in December 2026.

But here’s the catch. The Muse Charm doesn’t offer anything new. In fact, it’s identical to the voice assistant and Muse avatar found within Meta’s app, but simply packaged in a different way. According to Meta, this is a relatively low-risk venture into hardware form factors. They’re simply trying to gauge consumer interest in having an AI assistant that functions independently of their smartphone. In other words, I believe this signals that AI companions are looking to escape from our phones and find a home on their own standalone devices. But Meta is able to do this without breaking the bank or solving any new technological challenges.
