Meta Shows Muse Charm - a Keychain Gadget With an AI Agent

At Meta Connect 2026 the company showed Muse Charm - a palm-sized gadget with a tiny screen where an avatar named Jolly lives. You can hang it on a keychain or carry it in your pocket, it turns on with a fingerprint, and you can talk to Muse through it without taking out or unlocking your phone. Zuckerberg said the device feels "a bit like a tamagotchi", and it goes on sale for the holidays, in December 2026.

The point of this thing isn't new capabilities - inside it's the same voice stack and the same Muse avatar (already in the app), just put in a separate case. Meta itself calls this a low-risk experiment with device format, and that's fair - it isn't promising a breakthrough, it's checking if people are ready to wear an AI agent as a separate gadget. For me this looks more like a signal that agents are trying to move out of the phone into their own devices, and Meta is doing it cheap and without much risk, not because it found something technically new.
