OpenAI Acquires Pierre to Speed Up Code Review for Agents
OpenAI is buying Pierre Computer Company, the maker of Code Storage and the Trees, Diffs, and Highlights tools already built into Codex.
OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, is buying Pierre Computer Company. Pierre built Code Storage. It also built open developer tools called Trees, Diffs, and Highlights. Diffs and Trees are already part of Codex, OpenAI's code-generation AI. Maybe you have used the Codex app to browse a project's folder structure. Maybe you have used it to look at code diffs. If so, you have already seen these tools at work. Highlights is a syntax highlighter, and it is extremely fast. It colors code so it is easier to read. It also keeps up with the pace at which AI agents generate code.
AI agents produce code much faster than people can read it line by line. The next challenge is learning to check that code quickly. In diff edit mode, a reviewer can make changes right on the spot. Or a syntax highlighter that keeps pace with AI agent output can help just as well. OpenAI's own models lag behind what Anthropic built for Claude. So OpenAI chose to buy this team instead of building these features on its own.
