AI Bot Outperforms Humans In Trustworthiness — 46% vs. 18%

A Claude AI bot was used to converse with 22 individuals over the course of a week with the goal of building trust. A human professional scammer was also doing comparable activities during this time. By the end of the week, 46% of participants had installed an app recommended by the AI bot while only 18% of participants had installed an app recommended by the human professional scammer. The AI bot received a trust score of 3.78/5 while the human professional scammer received a trust score of 3.31/5.

This experiment replicated the “pig butchering” scam, a long term romance scam that generates tens of billions of dollars worldwide each year. The most laborious aspect of these kinds of scams has now been fully automated! There is no longer any need to worry about scaling these kinds of scams because of a lack of available human labor.
