Gemini Hits One Billion Users — Faster Than Any Google Product Ever

Google Gemini has crossed 1 billion monthly active users, becoming the company's 14th product to reach that milestone — and the fastest to get there in Google's history. Search, Gmail, and YouTube each took years to reach the same number.

1Year-Over-Year Growth

In April–June 2026, Gemini had more than 950 million monthly active users. By August, the number crossed the billion mark. Daily active users tripled over twelve months — one of the fastest growth rates among consumer apps.

2Voice and Images

63% of Gemini users have tried voice mode at least once — conversing with the assistant without typing. The app generates more than 150 million images per day. Google separately reports more than 100 million active users on iOS alone.

3Context: ChatGPT and the Billion-User Race

OpenAI's ChatGPT hit 1 billion users two months earlier — in June 2026. Both products reached that audience in a timeframe that previously took platforms an entire decade. AI assistants have entered mass consumer adoption much the way search engines and messaging apps once did — and are now competing for a global audience, not just early adopters.
