Perplexity Launches Always-On AI Teammates for Work

Perplexity, the AI search company behind the Perplexity app, has launched Teammates. These are AI agents that run around the clock and take on different roles inside a shared workspace. They connect to existing projects, skills, and memory from Perplexity's own tools, as well as to Perplexity Computer, a system that already runs agents directly on a user's device. Teammates is available only on Perplexity's top-tier Max plan, which costs $200 a month. Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas wrote on X that over time, every organization will be able to run hundreds of these agents per person.

Perplexity directly compares Teammates to OpenAI's Dots and to Claude Duet, Anthropic's own always-running agent feature, rather than to anything from its own past work. That comparison itself is telling. It shows which agent design the market now treats as the benchmark. Running 24/7 means an agent keeps burning tokens even when nobody has given it a task. And $200 a month per person is exactly the price tag that comes bundled with that.
